A
concert review by Katrin Wagner:
Day 2 of our trip to Holland...
Click here for Day 1 - Kerkrade and Day 3 -
Roermond.
Day 2 starts just like day 1 has ended - with SAILOR, but
this time in the breakfast room. Rob has to leave early
to pick up his girlfriend Anna and Peter's friend Steve
at the airport in Amsterdam. The rest of us enjoys a bit
of spare time.
At midday Christel and I go to the hotel restaurant in
order to have a good meal before the second concert and
the second long night. A little later we are joined by
Grant and Michelle, and about another hour later we are
joined by Phil and Peter.
It's 4.30 pm when we get ready to leave the hotel to
drive to Etten-Leur. Grant, Michelle and Phil are already
on their way, but we meet Rob, Anna, Peter and Steve at
the lobby as we are about to leave. They are ahead of us
on the motorway for a while, but as there is a lot of
traffic we lose them somewhere on the way.
In spite of this, Christel and I don't have any problems
in finding Etten-Leur, and this time it's also a lot
easier to find the venue "De Nobelar". We are a
little bit worried because we don't have tickets yet.
There will be numbered seats, so we think that we won't
be able to get to the front today. But as we reach the
box office we are told that most of the seats are taken,
but it is still possible to get to row A in front of the
stage. We look at each other in surprise, but then
quickly decide to take the two middle seats in this row.
The audience has to wait at the entrance hall of the
theatre until the doors are opened. There we briefly meet
Rob again who tells us to watch out for a little new
surprise / change during the show. ("Can you spot
the change in the set?"...)
Inside the theatre we finally understand why the seats in
the front row has still been available: an additional row
of seats has been placed in front of row 1. Marvellous!
The show starts with SAILOR at 8.15 pm and is as good as
the last one. The sound is very good again, and again
everyone in the audience knows the lyrics of songs like
"Sailor" and "Traffic Jam", they all
wave their arms in the air during "The Old
Nickelodeon Sound". At the end the people finally
get to their feet again during "La Cumbia",
"Girls Girls Girls", the "Latino
Medley" and the notorious "Full Monty".
And yes... we do spot the little change in the "Full
Monty"! The middle part has now been changed and
improved, which makes the whole performance even better
and easier to understand what's going on at the end for
people who haven't seen it yet.
Peter, Rob, Phil and Grant leave the stage after a great
60 min show and come to the entrance hall of the theatre
some minutes later to meet and greet the audience, sign
autographs and sell merchandise. In the meantime Christel
and I take some photos and also talk to the boys.
Afterwards Christel and I go back to the theatre in order
to watch a part of The Rubettes show. They are very good
- as usual - too, but unfortunately we have to leave the
theatre again after about half an hour to drive back to
the hotel near Utrecht.
We reach the hotel at about midnight again, quickly
followed by the SAILORs. Then we meet all the SAILORs and
Michelle, Anna and Steve again at the bar...
